Mariam is a one-year-old girl from Jenin, in the West Bank.

At home, she has three older siblings and one younger sibling on the way. Her father is a house painter and her mother is a housewife.

When Mariam was one week old, her mother noticed she was breathing rapidly and brought her to the hospital in Nablus.

Mariam was diagnosed with tetralogy of Fallot, a life-threatening congenital heart defect, and she was referred to Save a Child’s Heart.

Mariam was brought to have her heart screened at the free clinic for Palestinian families from the West Bank and Gaza conducted by Save a Child's Heart each Tuesday, and later admitted to the Wolfson Medical Center for repair of her heart condition, undergoing life-saving heart surgery on March 28, 2019.

Mariam is a happy little girl who has been very energetic and active since recovering from her surgery. She is now learning to walk! She will continue to be observed on subsequent clinic days throughout her life. When she grows up her parents want her to become a doctor.
